Today, I’m excited to share a significant milestone in my NaNoWriMo journey—I reached 5,000 words and earned the coveted badge! This puts me at 10% of the way to my goal, and it’s a reminder that dedication and persistence pay off. Every word written is another step forward, and this achievement fills me with motivation to keep going. 🖋️
Reflecting on Chapters Two and Three
This week has been full of emotional and narrative breakthroughs as I worked on Chapters Two and Three of The Secret Tree. In Chapter Two, we see Evie returning to the campsite, still grappling with the unsettling encounter on the trail. The scene captures the contrast between her parents’ unwavering faith and Evie’s internal doubts—a portrayal of her struggle to reconcile fear with the spiritual beliefs her parents instill in her as their daughter, yet she still searches for her own understanding and for her own relationship with God.
In Chapter Three, I introduced a deeper layer of suspense as Evie finds herself in an unexpected confrontation. The appearance of a mysterious park ranger adds a sense of unease that propels the story forward, bringing more questions and doubts to the surface.
A Sneak Peek at Chapter Three
“It’s easy to get lost out here, Ma’am. You could have a moment of confusion at any time, and there is hardly any cell service because of the tree canopy back this way. My name is Mike. How long will y’all be camping with us?” he responds.
“We aren’t big campers, so we rented a cabin for the weekend.” Evie clears her throat in response to her quick-witted lie. “Nice to meet you, Mike. I’ve got to get going.” She says loudly and nearly runs up the path away from the mysterious park ranger.
The encounter is brief but charged with tension, leaving Evie—and the reader—wondering what lies beneath the surface of this seemingly serene park.
What’s Next?
As I press on, I’m eager to deepen the mystery, shed light on Evie’s journey, and draw connections between her external experiences and inner transformation. The journey is just beginning, and there’s so much more to discover.
