🌿 Shoal Creek, Sweet Memories

🌿 Shoal Creek, Sweet Memories: Spring Break in Florence, Alabama

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

There’s something sacred about stepping away from the routines of everyday life to soak in the beauty of God’s creation—especially when you’re surrounded by the people who mean the most. That’s exactly what we did this past week for Spring Break as we camped out along the serene banks of Shoals Creek in Florence, Alabama. šŸŒ¤ļøā›ŗ

Our family unplugged and slowed down at Creekside Camp, Site 8, where the water whispered its own kind of peace and the sunsets painted heaven’s brushstrokes across the sky. The week held more than just a vacation.

It was a holy pause, a gathering of hearts, and a reunion with our eldest daughter, Anya, who is currently attending ministry school in the area.

šŸŽ£ Chris and Liam were in their element—rods in hand, laughter echoing off the water as they fished side by side. I don’t know who had more fun: Liam learning new techniques or Chris watching his boy fall in love with the same rhythms we both grew up enjoying.

šŸ›¶ Anya and her ministry friends soaked in the sunshine while kayaking, floating downstream like joyful leaves carried by the current—faith, friendship, and fresh air filling their souls.

šŸ›ļø Meanwhile, Bailey and Kasey explored the charming streets of downtown Florence. Boutique shopping, iced lattes, and girl time made for sweet memories—and a few bags that made their way back to the camper too. šŸ˜‰

šŸ“ø As for me? I got to document it all—the laughter, the peace, the stormy night that rattled our camper windows, and the next morning’s brilliant sunlight that broke through like hope. I captured the heartbeat of our family, stitched together with love and adventure, anchored by our shared faith.

One of my favorite moments was visiting the Florence Indian Mound Museum, where we explored a rich heritage and found ourselves in awe of the land’s stories. Walking through history together reminded us of how precious our own stories are—and how God continues to write them with every step.

šŸŒ¦ļø Aside from one good thunderstorm, the weather was absolutely perfect. We marveled at how the Lord not only provided sunshine but moments of stillness, closeness, and joy. Site 8 became more than a campsite—it became a snapshot of our lives right now: shifting, growing, and filled with blessings we never take for granted.

As we packed up and hugged Anya goodbye, I couldn’t help but whisper a thank you to the Lord. For time. For memories. For sunshine and storms. For His goodness, present in every laugh and every ripple of the water.
