Poisoned Pawn by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

“Touché!” you clever, poisoned Pawn

Poisoned Pawn offered
Poisoned Pawn slain

Your actions only seemed to be at my expense

Don’t underestimate my experience

Poisoned Pawn offered
Poisoned Pawn slain

Oh, what a lovely, dubious attack

White believed to be overcome by Black

Poisoned Pawn offered
Poisoned Pawn slain

Your actions merely seemed to be at my expense

Ironically, your King found himself

captured by my glorious Queen—

much too early for YOU

Poisoned Pawn offered
Poisoned Pawn slain

to mount a legitimate, decent defense.

Your actions ironically seemed to be at my expense.

“Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.” Nelson Mandela

I wrote the backbone of this poem on the way home from Tennessee. I finished it up tonight 12/9/20. I’d like to thank Post Malone for offering me the rhythm needed to fix it. “I Fall Apart” sometimes these days myself. JGS

I am an English teacher, mother, and wife, but I love to write. I feel that I am blessed to be able to use my talent to write about my children's books, poems, short fiction, and parenting. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about my experiences with beginning a writing career while focusing on my children and my job. I look forward to comments and to hear from my readers!
