Storing Up Stuff

How Much Meaning Do We Put on Our “STUFF”? šŸ’

On August 30, I received my last paycheck as a teacher. Since then, I’ve found myself feeling insecure, constantly asking, What will I do when I want to buy more stuff? Jesus’ response was simple yet profound: “Your security should be in Me alone.” šŸ™ (John 14:6)

It’s a powerful truth, and while I agree with it wholeheartedly, my mind has struggled to fully grasp it. Today, as it rained at the shop, I watched some birds fly into a large tree for shelter while others perched happily in the rain. The Bible reassures me that not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God knowing (Matthew 10:29-31). 🐦✨

As I reflected on God’s care for even the smallest of creatures, I was reminded of my grandmother’s house—how I wish I could walk up and touch it again. It was demolished a couple of months ago, and the loss hit me hard. Through my tears, I told Jesus that I understood it wasn’t His will for me to keep that house or land. And again, He gently reminded me: “It’s all just STUFF.” šŸ’”šŸ

ā€œTherefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?ā€ (Matthew 6: 25-28)

Wiping away my tears, I decided to dive into my study of Ephesians with the Bible Project. And wouldn’t you know it? Right there on the app was a new video titled “Explaining Jesus’ Perspective on Wealth and Possessions.” It was as if God was giving me one more nudge: I get it, Jesus. šŸ™Œ

Over the years, I’ve lost plenty of stuff—material things that seemed so important at the time. But in their place, I’ve gained something infinitely greater: treasures in Heaven and a secure place in God’s Kingdom. āœØšŸ’–

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

Thank you, Jesus, for reminding me where my true security lies. It’s not in earthly possessions, but in You and the eternal home You’ve prepared for me. šŸ™šŸ šŸŒŸ
