🌼from Victims to Victors–by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan ✨
As I navigated my teaching career, I often felt a cumbersome burden weighing me down—my indecision about whether to continue in a role as a high school English teacher—a role that I once felt called to do. It became increasingly clear that my lack of decision was holding me back from fully embracing the path God had laid before me. In a moment of prayerful reflection, I felt the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit saying, “Child, lay your burden down.” This simple yet profound message resonated deeply within me, offering a sense of relief and clarity. 🙏❤️
The very next day, I was empowered to write my resignation letter and submit it with no regrets. It felt liberating to finally take that step, knowing I was aligning my actions with God’s purpose for my life. There was a sense of peace that washed over me, affirming that I was making the right choice. Letting go of the expectations and fears associated with my teaching career opened up a world of possibilities, allowing me to embrace my true calling in ministry and writing. I knew I was stepping into a new chapter filled with hope and opportunity.
This idea aligns beautifully with Matthew 11:28-30, where Jesus invites us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened, promising rest for our souls: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Just as the Prodigal Son was welcomed back into his father’s embrace, I realized it was time to release my hold on the past and the expectations that had become stifling.
With this divine reassurance, I recognized that prioritizing ministry and writing over teaching public school was not a loss but a beautiful transition into a new chapter of my life. This shift has allowed me to explore my passions and gifts in ways that align more closely with my identity as a daughter of Jesus. 🌼✍️
As I reflected on this transition, I saw that the theme for my project The Victor’s Basket coincides perfectly with my decision to focus on ministry and writing. Just as the basket symbolizes the collection of experiences and blessings God bestows upon us, I am learning to gather my own victories—transforming burdens into blessings and stepping into the calling that God has for me.

Losing the victim mentality is a transformative step toward embracing the abundant life God intends for us. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are reminded that “if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This verse encourages us to release past hurts and negative mindsets, allowing God to renew our hearts and minds. By shifting our focus from victimhood to victory, we align ourselves with God’s purpose and find strength in His promises. Philippians 4:13 reassures us, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength,” empowering us to rise above our circumstances and walk confidently in faith.
This new perspective liberates me and empowers me to encourage others to embrace their journeys. By laying down the weight of indecision and the victim mentality, we open ourselves to the victory that comes from trusting God’s plan. As stated in 1 John 5:4, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” I am excited to see where this path leads, knowing that each step is an opportunity for growth and fulfillment. 🌈🌟
