As NaNoWriMo approaches this Friday, I’m gearing up to dive into the first chapter of my YA novel, The Secret Tree! 🌟 After weeks of brainstorming and planning, I’m ready to turn my ideas into a rough draft.

Chapter One will introduce my main character, Evie, a teenage girl who is reluctantly joining her family for a weekend camping trip at Crooked River State Park. This peaceful, serene setting seems like the perfect escape, but Evie finds herself feeling burdened by responsibilities and disconnected from the people closest to her. She struggles with the weight of being the “responsible” one for her younger sibling, and she questions her faith, wondering where God fits into all of her doubts and frustrations.

As Evie and her sibling explore the park, they come across a mysterious, gnarled tree they name The Secret Tree. This tree will come to symbolize both fear and hope, tying into a traumatic event that ultimately tests Evie’s strength and faith in ways she never expected. 🧭💫

I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to bring this scene to life, balancing suspense, emotion, and Evie’s powerful journey.
