Preparing for Presence: More Than a Bible Study

Expecting God’s Presence

Stewarding what He gives me well

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

Today, I’m wiping down tables, rearranging furniture in the tiny house office, organizing handouts, and doing all the little things that help make a space feel ready. It’s not a huge space—just four walls and a roof—but tomorrow, it will hold something sacred.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of something I’ve longed to step into: a new Bible study through the Tiny House Ministry.

However, this isn’t just another study or a neatly planned event: it’s something deeper, and it’s something holy. While I’m preparing the “things,” my heart is most focused on preparing the atmosphere—making room for the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Because His presence is the most important thing.

I can prep handouts, pick out scripture, and sweep the porch all day long. On the other hand, unless the Spirit moves—unless He is welcomed, invited, and allowed to lead—then all I’ve done is host a meeting, not a ministry.

My prayer for this group, for this season, for this little house turned holy ground—is simple:

I want every person who walks in tomorrow to feel that something is different. That this is a place where God meets His children. That this is a place where walls don’t exist—neither physical nor spiritual—and where the invitation is always:
Come and see. Come and sit. Come and rest. Come and be filled.

🕊 Tomorrow’s Study: Courting God – A Christian’s Desire to Be a Heart on Fire

Synopsis:
We often talk about following Jesus, but how often do we think about courting Him—pursuing Him the way we would pursue someone we love? This study invites us to reflect on our relationship with the Lord as an intentional, daily romance rooted in reverence, obedience, and love. We’ll talk about spiritual idolatry, intimacy with God, and how to prioritize His presence in our everyday lives.

📖 Scripture Focus:

  • Psalm 63:3 – “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” (NIV)
  • 1 Peter 3 (The Message) – Living with inner beauty and godliness
  • Colossians 3:5, 10 (ESV) – Putting off the old self and putting on the new, made in His image

🔥 Challenge:

Ask yourself honestly:

  • Am I pursuing God with the same passion I give to other people or priorities?
  • What “idols” in my life might be stealing my affection and time from Him?

This week’s challenge: Schedule a “date” with God. Choose a time and place where you can intentionally meet with Him—no distractions, no agenda, just presence.

🙏 Prayer:

Father, as we begin this journey together, we invite You to take the lead. Let Your presence fill every corner of our hearts and every space we gather in. Remove distractions, break down idols, and draw us into deeper intimacy with You. May this study not just change our routines but transform our hearts. Let Your fire fall. Let us become hearts on fire for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
