Faith that stands out in the darkness…
Why This Post Matters
This week has been eye-opening for me. As I released The First Grade Chatterbox and ran an ad for my blog Pursuing Christ, I received a wave of responses from atheists and even satanists. While I’ve grown used to opposition when sharing the gospel, one particular comment shook me—not because it held truth, but because it revealed how misunderstood faith really is.
The comment argued:
“A God that depends on faith for His existence is not God but a man-made lie…”
My initial reaction was disbelief. To me, this argument is absurd. Yet it reminded me of how important it is to stand firm and truly understand what faith is and why it matters.
What Faith Really Is
Faith is not blind. Faith is not a “commitment to a lie.” Faith is the very thing that connects us to the unseen yet eternally real God. Hebrews 11:1 tells us:
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Faith does not cancel truth—it reveals it. God is not dependent on our faith to exist. He is the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 22:13). Our faith is simply the bridge that brings us into relationship with Him, aligning us with the reality of His presence and power.
Faith in the Face of Evidence
The critic argued that “truth doesn’t require faith.” But here’s the irony—everything in life requires faith.
- You have faith that the sun will rise tomorrow.
- You have faith that the chair you sit in won’t collapse beneath you.
- You have faith when you board an airplane, trusting the pilot you’ve never met.
Faith is not the absence of evidence—it’s the trust we place in what evidence points to. Creation itself testifies to the Creator (Romans 1:20). Jesus’ resurrection is documented by eyewitnesses (1 Corinthians 15:3–8). Faith embraces truth and walks in it.
Faith as Our Anchor
In a culture where Christians are mocked and accused of being brainwashers or liars, we must remember that faith is our anchor. Persecution is not proof that our faith is false—it’s evidence that the enemy feels threatened by the truth we proclaim.
1 Peter 1:7 says:
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold.”
Encouragement for Believers
If you’ve ever been tempted to waver because of mockery or harsh criticism, know this: Your faith is not in vain. Don’t let the enemy silence you. Keep proclaiming Jesus in love; no matter how much resistance comes.
Jesus Himself said in John 20:29:
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
That’s us. That’s our call. That’s our strength.
A Call to Stand Boldly
Faith is not a man-made lie. Faith is the evidence of things unseen, the substance of our hope, and the assurance of God’s eternal reality.
When the world calls faith foolishness, stand boldly. When voices shout that Christianity is lies, remember: Faith is not fragile—it is the unshakable gift of God that lights our path in the darkness.
For the Unbeliever Who Searches
How do you become saved?
The Bible makes salvation simple and clear:
- Believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins and rose again (Romans 10:9).
- Confess Him as Lord of your life.
- Receive His forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.
You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You don’t have to have all the answers. Salvation is not about religion, it’s about a relationship with Jesus.
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved… for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” — Romans 10:9–10, 13 (NIV)
Here’s a prayer you can pray today:
🙏 “Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for me and rose again. Please forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, and be my Lord and Savior. I give my life to You today.”
If you prayed that prayer, welcome to the family of God! 🎉 Your next step is to grow—find a Bible, pray daily, and get connected to a church that teaches the Word of God.
The Reality of Spiritual Opposition
As I finish writing this, I think of the spiritual battle right here in my own community. There is a large coven of witches in town. They are not “faithless.” They have taken a clear stance against the Creator. Time and again, they have petitioned to silence public prayer. Their goal is not neutrality, but influence—on our politics, our children, our businesses, and our culture.
This is proof that what we believe is not a game of ideas, but a battle of kingdoms. To denounce God the Father is to align with the losing team. Scripture reminds us in John 10:10:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Faith, then, is not just personal—it is resistance. It is warfare. Every time we choose Christ, pray aloud, or declare His Word, we stand in opposition to the forces of darkness. Remember that faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of Jesus Christ!
Scripture References on Faith
- Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) – “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
- 2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV) – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
- Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV) – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
- Matthew 17:20 (ESV) – “He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’”
- James 1:6 (ESV) – “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.”
- Romans 10:17 (ESV) – “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
Closing Prayer
Father, we thank You that faith is Your gift to us. Strengthen our hearts to trust You when the world mocks or resists. Remind us daily that our foundation is Christ alone, the solid rock that never shifts. Lord, help us to live boldly, proclaiming Your love and truth with gentleness and courage. For those who waver, pour out fresh faith. For those who deny You, reveal Your mercy. Teach us to walk by faith and not by sight, until the day we see You face-to-face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge for the Week
Each day this week, pray a faith-filled prayer out loud. It doesn’t have to be long, but make it bold. Ask God for something that only He can do in your life, for your family, or in your community. Watch for His answer—and be ready to give Him the glory!
