Suiting Up: Spiritual Warfare and Kingdom Mindset

Spiritual Warfare and The Body of Christ Part 1

September 24, 2025

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

This morning, the Lord had me pray with a dear friend before she stepped into a business situation fraught with demonic influence and witchcraft. Together, we prayed and activated the Armor of God—not just as a symbol, but as a living reality of God’s authority over the enemy.

The Spirit reminded me that we are not called to sit idly in defense, constantly dodging the enemy’s darts. Instead, we are called to take ground, to advance the Kingdom, and then to defend that ground through deliverance and discipleship.

The Armor of God: Not Just Defense, But Offense

Yes, the Armor protects us. The shield quenches fiery darts. The helmet guards our mind. The breastplate covers our heart. However, Scripture also shows us that the Armor equips us to move forward. Our feet are fitted with the gospel of peace—made for walking, running, pressing into new territory.

The sword of the Spirit isn’t meant to stay sheathed; it is wielded. The church is not a bunker—we are a Kingdom on the move.

Offense and Defense: God’s Football Team

The Lord gave me an analogy through my son Liam’s football playing:

  • On God’s team, the offense is made up of those pressing forward—preachers, evangelists, teachers, prophets, apostles—pushing through enemy lines with the gospel of peace. They are like quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs, carrying the Word toward the end zone.
  • The defenders are the intercessors, worshippers, deliverers, disciplers. They block the enemy’s attacks, pray down strongholds, and fight unseen battles so that the gospel keeps moving forward.

Both roles matter. Both are Spirit-ordained. Both are necessary for Kingdom advancement.

The Danger of Sitting Out

I’ve seen leaders and ministers excuse themselves from gathering with the saints, justifying weakness or disengagement with poor theology. But this is not the Kingdom mindset.

Jesus said: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15, ESV)
The Word from Genesis to Revelation is true, sovereign, and complete. To set it aside or to mislead God’s people is dangerous ground. Scripture warns: “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.” (Luke 17:2, ESV)

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37–38). If you refuse your calling, God—as the good Coach—will put another in your place.

Call to Action

Church, now is the time. Lay down pride. Stop hesitating. Step into the role He has equipped for you. We are ONE body, functioning under the direction of our Father, equipped by the Spirit, and anointed by our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This isn’t an army of one. This is the Kingdom of God.

Prayer

Father,
Thank You for equipping us with the Armor of God, for teaching us through the Spirit, and for anointing us through Christ. Help us to recognize our role in Your Kingdom—whether on the offense, pushing new territory forward, or on the defense, interceding and protecting. Strip away pride, fear, and hesitation. Make us bold in our obedience, unified in Your body, and steadfast in the harvest You’ve set before us. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Challenge for the Week

Ask the Lord this week: “Am I on the offense or the defense?” Then, suit up and step fully into your role. Pray for discernment, seek the Spirit’s counsel, and take one bold step into Kingdom territory.
