A Mind Running Away

A Heart’s Plea through the Brain Fog

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

Dear Lord,

It’s been a day — though nothing tragic or dramatic has happened. The office has been calm, and I am blessed to have awakened to another day that You have made.
But still… something lingers.

Jesus, there is something I cannot put my finger on at all.
My thoughts are scattered.
My mind has raced most of the day — randomly, constantly — reaching everywhere and nowhere at once.

What is the point of my work today?
I feel aimless… without purpose or position.

Last night, I awoke at 1:45 a.m. under physical attack. I took Benadryl and prayed.
I waited for Your presence to cover me.
I anointed my head and my chest with oil and prayed in silence while Chris slept peacefully — unaware of the warfare swirling around him.
But You knew it all.

I am so scatterbrained these days, caught in loops and loops of distraction.
Yet there You are — patient, steady, waiting for me to be still in Your presence.

So here I am now, Jesus.
I come to sit at Your feet.
To praise You through this fog — this invisible storm inside my head and heart.

Father, so many in my community hurt today.
Two families lost their babies.
Others struggle to make ends meet, some teetering on the edge of hopelessness.
And our country… Lord, our country feels so broken.

Yet You remain unchanged.
You are still the Rock of Ages.
You are still my Redeemer and my Salvation.
You are still the Author of every story — mine included.

Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance what You would have me know.
Bring to my remembrance what You would have me do.

In Your time, Father, take what I have and make it Yours.
Take this weary heart and clear the fog.
Renew my mind and steady my steps.
I thank You for the cross — and for the conviction to come up higher, to draw nearer, to sit closer.

Take this life, Lord.
Make it Yours.
All that I am is Yours to use.

Amen.

Scriptures for Reflection

Philippians 4:7 (NIV)

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Challenge for Today

Before the day ends, set aside a quiet minutes with no phone, no music, and no agenda.
Just breathe.
Close your eyes and whisper His name until the noise in your head gives way to His presence in your heart.

Ask Him:

“Lord, where have I been rushing past You today?”

Then sit. Listen. Let His peace fill every distracted corner of your mind.
