Shielded by the Faithfulness of God

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

This morning began like so many others. Liam and I prayed together before the day got started, and after he and his daddy left for school, I returned to my quiet place with the Lord. My prayers were shorter than usual. I spoke over Liam. I sat in stillness, but I did not specifically pray over Chris like I normally do.

Yet… God had already gone before him.

Monday is welding supply day at S & S FAB and Welding. Tanks are exchanged, supplies are restocked, and the shop moves with its usual rhythm of work and responsibility. This morning, the welders in the large shop were replaced, but one 75/25 argon-CO₂ tank was not properly chained into position.

When the welder was moved for a job, the tank began to fall toward the concrete floor.

In a moment that can only be described as divine intervention, Chris had just stepped outside to speak with the supply driver. He saw what was happening and dove beneath the tank. It landed on his body instead of the concrete. If that tank had hit the ground, the consequences could have been catastrophic.

There is no softening that truth. The impact could have seriously injured or killed every man in that shop and caused devastating damage to the facility. The weight of what almost happened is not lost on me.

Neither is the faithfulness of God.

Today, I saw what it means to be truly shielded by the faithfulness of God.

Chris walked away with a bleeding leg and cut arms. The men in the shop walked away unharmed. At lunchtime, they left the building the same way they came in—whole, intact, and safe. God’s faithfulness was already in place before I ever formed the words.

That realization has settled deeply into my spirit today. His protection is not dependent on my perfectly worded prayers. His covering is not fragile. His presence does not waver based on my moments of oversight.

“The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3, ESV)

I am reminded that God goes before us. He stands in the gap. He intervenes in moments we never see coming, and even when we falter, forget, or fall short—He does not.

What a God!

What a God!

What a faithful God!

Reflection

If today or tonight you find yourself in a situation where you doubt yourself—where you question what you can or cannot do—stand firm and lift your shield of faith.

“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” (Ephesians 6:16, ESV)

The Sovereign God of all creation fights your battles, both in the flesh and in the spirit. He is not limited by what you see, and He is not hindered by what you do not know. Even when you have no idea what is coming, He is already there.

“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” (Exodus 14:14, ESV)

Do not lose heart. Do not give up.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, ESV)

He sees you. He knows what you need. And He is faithful to meet you right where you are. Jesus is still in the life-affirming, life-giving, miracle-working business—today, tomorrow, and forever.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV)

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness that never depends on us getting everything right. Thank You for going before us, for protecting us, and for covering us even in the moments we are unaware. Help us to trust You more deeply and to recognize Your hand in both the seen and unseen moments of our lives. Strengthen our faith so that we may stand firm, even when we do not understand. In Jesus’ name, amen.
