Trusting God in a Time of Obedience

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

For the past few weeks, the Lord has been unfolding a new project in my heart—one that I never expected, but I am walking into with obedience and trust. My Return to Egypt is more than just a book title; it’s a deeply personal journey, both spiritually and biblically, and I believe He is calling me to explore it fully.

A Story Rooted in Scripture 📖

This project centers on Moses’ return to Egypt—his calling, his reluctance, his obedience, and ultimately, the liberation God brought through him. After fleeing Egypt, Moses built a new life in Midian, tending sheep in the quiet desert for forty years. Then one day, the Lord called him back to the very place he had left behind.

Moses’ story is one of returning, trusting, and stepping into a divine assignment—even when it didn’t feel comfortable. And that, I’ve come to realize, is exactly where I am.

A Personal Parallel 🌿

Just as Moses had to return to Egypt in obedience, God has called me to leave my service at The River Church and return to another church—the one my husband attends. This transition was not what I wanted, but it is what the Lord has commanded me to do.

Moses didn’t want to go back to Egypt. He had every reason not to return. Yet, his obedience paved the way for deliverance. That is the heartbeat of My Return to Egypt—learning to embrace the the wilderness, the calling, and the return in whatever way God asks.

Research & Inspiration 📚

I’ve been studying Moses’ entire journey—his time in Egypt, exile, return, and the liberation that followed. There is so much to unpack, and I want to explore:
How God prepares us in seasons of wilderness
What it means to walk in obedience despite discomfort
The personal cost of answering God’s call
How returning can sometimes mean stepping forward

The Journey Ahead 🏜️

Right now, I am still in the listening and planning stage, allowing God to shape this book as He sees fit. I don’t have every answer yet, but I trust that He does. The cover design is also in development—I’ve explored a desert journey concept as well as a reflection by the Nile, both of which symbolize the weight of returning to a place God is calling me.

Follow Along! 🙌

This book is still unfolding, and I would love for you to walk this journey with me! Have you ever had to return to a place of obedience, even when you didn’t want to? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

🙏 Please pray with me as I continue seeking the Lord’s direction for this project. More updates coming soon!
