Living out your inheritance is walking in VICTORY
by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan
Have you ever stopped to think about what it means to inherit something? Inheritance isn’t just about receiving material things—it’s about stepping into a legacy that was prepared for you long before you were born.
As children of God, our inheritance is more than earthly possessions. It’s a divine gift that includes His promises, blessings, and a secure place in His family. 1 John 3:1 (NIV) says it beautifully:
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
This verse is a reminder that our identity as God’s children is the foundation of everything. It’s an identity rooted in love, belonging, and inheritance. Let’s take a closer look at what this inheritance means:
What Is Our Inheritance?
- Belonging to God’s Family:
Being a child of God means we’re part of His family—a community of believers connected by faith. Our inheritance includes belonging to something greater than ourselves, with God as our loving Father. - Promises and Blessings:
As God’s children, we inherit His promises. This includes eternal life, His guidance, and His unwavering love. These blessings aren’t just for the future—they’re gifts we can experience in our daily lives. - Freedom from Condemnation:
Romans 8:1 reminds us that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Our inheritance frees us from the weight of guilt and shame, allowing us to live boldly in the grace of God. - Strength for the Journey:
God equips us with His Spirit to face life’s challenges. Our inheritance includes the strength to overcome obstacles, knowing that we don’t walk this journey alone.
A Word of Knowledge
This message is for someone who is struggling to understand inheritance because you’ve been rejected—by family, by friends, and by life itself. You feel bruised—maybe even abused and abandoned. For you, Jesus wants you to know this:
“There is no abandonment in the Kingdom. You are not alone, you are not orphaned, you are accepted, you are loved, and you are called MINE, says the Lord.
Put those thoughts of self-harm and suicide out of your mind right now. Find Me in My Word and in your prayer life. Surrender the sadness and the abandonment TODAY, and I will make all the crooked places straight so that you may live in the fullness of the inheritance that I died to give you.
Turn away from your old ways of thinking and your old ways of being! Let Me do the work from now on.”
Living Out Our Inheritance
So, how do we live as heirs of God? It starts with understanding and embracing our identity as His children. Here are some practical steps:
- Reflect on God’s Promises:
Spend time in Scripture to discover the promises God has made for you. Write them down, and remind yourself of them when life feels overwhelming. - Walk in Confidence:
Knowing you’re a child of God means you can approach challenges with faith and courage. You don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders—your Father walks with you. - Serve and Share:
Part of our inheritance is the opportunity to share God’s love with others. Serve those around you, and let your life reflect the joy of being part of His family.
A Prayer for Living in God’s Inheritance
Lord, thank You for calling me Your child and for the inheritance You have prepared for me. Help me to understand my identity in You and to live boldly, free from guilt and fear. I ask for the courage to reflect Your love in all I do, knowing that I am part of Your family and surrounded by Your promises. Amen.
