Illustrating “A Purposeful Day”

Chris always says that it takes money to make money. I really don’t disagree with him. However, I am moonlighting as a self published author while spending my teacher income on my publishing costs. So far, I have done most of the work of layout and design myself, but I cannot deny that children’s books are only as good as their artwork.

Also, I feel that I need to keep my book launches more rapid fire release instead of sporadic release. So, I need to decrease the time it takes for me to find an illustrator, get it illustrated, and tease the new release. My need to complete the plan for illustration means that I have to increase the amount of money I spent on the commission.

I’ve joined Upwork to post an illustrator job so that I can receive proposals and make a choice for “A Purposeful Day.” So far, I have been contacted by seriously talented artists, and I have asked several questions. I perused their portfolios and looked at their books online. I am so excited to hire an artist and get ready to publish new books.

In this case, I am going to have to spend money to make my children’s books successful. I tend to be a frugal spender, but I am just gonna hold my breath and hire the artist I feel can create the scenes I see in my mind, and I feel in my heart.

I am an English teacher, mother, and wife, but I love to write. I feel that I am blessed to be able to use my talent to write about my children's books, poems, short fiction, and parenting. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about my experiences with beginning a writing career while focusing on my children and my job. I look forward to comments and to hear from my readers!
