Meet Festus: Our Energetic Jack Russell with a Heart of GoldšŸ¾ā¤ļø

My Little Buddy by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

Every family has that one member who brings boundless energy, mischief, and unforgettable moments into the home. For us, that’s Festus, our five-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. Since Chris and I brought him home as a puppy, Festus has filled our days with joy, adventure, and a fair share of heart-stopping moments. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Liam and Festus as Babies

From Adventures to Mishaps Festus has been a part of nearly every camping trip we’ve taken, except for our most recent one. His soulful eyes and playful spirit make him the perfect companion for family outings. He’s even been featured in our family photos, capturing the essence of his lively personality.

The stories we could tell about Festus! There was the time he slipped off his leash at the end of a camping trip and led Chris, Bailey, and Sophia on a wild chase down a mountain and into a creek, with a chicken coop catching his attention mid-pursuit. And then there was the more terrifying moment in Clearwater, FL, when Festus escaped the dog park and darted into ten lanes of busy traffic. Without a second thought, I jumped into the highway to save him, and by some miracle, an F250 screeched to a halt before hitting me. Festus, thinking it was Chris’ truck (same make, model, and color), tried to jump in, oblivious to the close call. šŸ™šŸššThanks to the stopping truck, I was able to grab him as he sat by the driver’s door, patiently waiting to be let inside with what he thought was his family.

Festus and the Family

Tough Times and Resilience Festus has given us countless heart-racing moments over the years, and not much fazes him. Even after he decided to challenge a stray in our yard, resulting in a shoulder injury, his spirited nature remained intact. That injury led to two challenging months of healing, with a cast to help his shoulder recover. This morning, as we arrived back in Eastman, Festus looked up at me and let out a soft whine—an almost human expression of his readiness to move past this chapter.

Camping with my Sweet Boy

Today, we’ll find out from Dr. Rahn if Festus’ shoulder has healed or if he’ll need an amputation. Regardless of the outcome, Chris and I are committed to his recovery and ensuring that he continues to lead a happy, adventurous life. 🐶✨ Liam, our little storyteller, even mentioned that ā€œFestus, the Tripodā€ would make a great children’s book idea—how fitting for a dog who’s already inspired A Friend for Festus, a book that came to life after one of his legendary escapades involving our ducks.

Keeping Hope Alive As we wait for the vet’s update, I ask that you keep Festus in your thoughts and prayers. He may be mischievous, but he’s also a bright, loving soul who has brought endless love into our lives.

Festus’ Cast and Cone

We hope he’ll be back to his healthy, rambunctious self soon, running through our yard and chasing squirrels with all the zeal that only Festus can muster. šŸ’ššŸ¾
