🕊 When Mercy Isn’t Trending (Post 3)

The Mercy Series 🕊

by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

Mercy isn’t trending.

It isn’t loud.
It doesn’t sell.
It rarely gets reposted or praised.

Mercy doesn’t shout its cause or demand its rights. Mercy doesn’t inflate or entertain. It doesn’t feed the ego—it crucifies it.

But mercy…
Mercy changes everything.

The deeper I go into this Mercy Series, the more I realize that this is not a popular road to walk. The world doesn’t just reject mercy—it avoids it. Because mercy requires honesty, it means confronting our own brokenness. Mercy demands that we surrender our need to be right, and instead choose to love when it hurts. It means opening our hands when we want to hold a grudge, and bending low when our pride wants to stand tall. Don’t forget pride goes before a fall. What does the Word of God say about mercy and pride?

💡 Reflecting on the following scriptures:

Ephesians 4:31–32 (ESV):

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

Proverbs 16:18 (ESV):

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

James 4:10 (ESV):

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”

The stronghold of pride is the very reason that Jesus taught MERCY.
That’s why He lived it because mercy is not the way of the crowd—it’s the way of the Kingdom.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.” – Matthew 5:7

When I sit with the Lord in the quiet places, He isn’t calling me to be relevant. He’s calling me to be faithful, and right now, faithfulness looks like writing what may never trend but always transforms.

If you’re still here—if you’re still reading—you may be one of the few who are hungry for more than what the world offers. You might be thirsty for the living water of mercy for the rivers of living water!!

💧 John 7:37–39 (ESV)

“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”’ Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive…”

In this reference, Jesus directly connects rivers of living water to the Holy Spirit and how He prepares us who are poor in spirit to be merciful and to love like Jesus (Matthew 5:3).

Let’s keep walking together.
Quietly. Boldly. Faithfully.

Mercy isn’t hot.
But it’s holy.

Even when mercy isn’t trending, the Holy Spirit will keep whispering—reminding us of what is true, what is holy, and what is His. He will continue to lead us down the narrow way, showing us how to forgive, how to surrender, and how to love like Jesus.

Mercy is the path to freedom.
We walk in freedom when we become MERCIFUL, true reflections of Christ when we mirror the Lamb who was slain—not in power, but in compassion… not in pride, but in humility… not in defense, but in sacrifice.

💨 The Holy Spirit Whispers and Guides

John 16:13 (ESV):

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

Isaiah 30:21 (ESV):

“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”

🕊 Reflections of the Lamb

2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV):

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

Revelation 5:12 (ESV):

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

🙏 Closing Prayer

Father,
Thank You for loving me when I AM HARD to love. Thank You for showing me mercy when I deserved judgment. Teach me to love like You—to be patient when I’m frustrated, to be gentle when I want to push away, and to be merciful when everything in me wants to withhold grace. Let the Holy Spirit continue to whisper truth into my heart. Let me reflect the Lamb, even in the hidden, hard places of my life. I give You my marriage. I give You my relationships. I give You my desire to be right, and I ask You to replace it all with Your mercy, Your humility, and Your love.
Make me a vessel of Your kindness.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
