💔 Rejection Is Not the End of YOUR Story
by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan
Did you feel rejection today?
Do you feel rejected in your own community—sometimes, or maybe all the time?
Does rejection or the fear of rejection keep you from truly getting to know Jesus?
Does it keep you from worshipping with a body of believers?
I’ve been there.
I can’t even count how many times my middle child would yell, “Stop judging me! Don’t judge me, okay?!” And every time, I’d try to explain—discipling you is not the same as judging you. Still, she’d argue back.
That stubborn cry isn’t unfamiliar. I’ve been in churches where I felt watched, judged, even cornered. Those feelings, those fears—they pushed me to flee. But looking back, I realize now: some of that was my own broken heart, projecting my unhealed wounds onto people who weren’t even trying to hurt me.
Yet, I’ve also faced real rejection. Open persecution. Being pushed out of the very places where I so desperately wanted to belong. The Lord spoke into those moments, reminding me, “You won’t be accepted here, but don’t give up on Me. Don’t give up on My Church. Keep an open heart.”

I had to learn this truth the hard way:
Jesus understands rejection more than anyone or anything!
Isaiah 53:3 tells us He was “despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.” Even His own people—Nazareth, His hometown—rejected Him. The government, His own family, the religious leaders—they all turned away. But Jesus never stopped loving.
In fact, it was often the outcasts—the ones society rejected—who were the first to seek Him. They were the ones who were hungry, thirsty, desperate to know Him, to touch Him, to be healed by Him, to follow Him wherever He led.
So, I ask you today:
Have you rejected Jesus?
Have you turned away from His teachings?
From His love?
From His Body?
From His free gift of grace?
Maybe you’ve been hurt by people or by churches. Maybe you’ve walked away, believing you’d never belong. But John 1:11-12 reminds us that even though “He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him… to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
You are His child, and Psalm 27:10 promises that “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me in.”
Don’t let rejection—real or imagined—push you away from Jesus.
He’s standing with open arms, ready to pour His love over you.
Ready to heal what’s broken.
Ready to welcome you home.
As Romans 8:38-39 says, nothing—“neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers… will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The question isn’t whether Jesus will reject you. He never will.
The question is: Will you come to Him?
💔 Reaching Out Anyway
If you’ve ever felt rejected—whether by a church, a friend, your family, or even your own thoughts—you’re not alone. Jesus walked the path of rejection first. He was rejected by His hometown, by His people, by the powerful, and by those who should have known Him best. He is rejected even now while on the throne.

Here’s the BIG, ABSOLUTE truth: Jesus never rejects us.
The ones who called out to Him in desperation—the sick, the marginalized, the sinners—He embraced them. He still does.
If you’ve been wounded by people, by institutions, or even by your own fears, don’t let that pain push you away from the One who will never turn His face from you.
Open your heart again. Bring your rejection, your fears, and your hurts to Jesus. Let Him heal what people and circumstances have broken.
I want to encourage you today—right now, this very moment—to take a chance.
Not just to accept Jesus as your Savior, but to know Him as your friend for life.
He knows you. Every hair on your head, every tear you’ve cried, every molecule in your body—He wove them together with purpose and love.
So why not take the chance today?
🌿 Dive into His Word.
🌿 Immerse yourself in His world.
🌿 Cry out to Him in prayer.
🌿 Step into His Kingdom.
🌿 Find your place in His Body of believers.

It’s never too late.
You’re never too old.
You’re never too damaged.
You’re never too sinful for Jesus. He’s waiting for you—with open arms and a heart full of grace. He’s calling your name again and again! God calls you by name is Isaiah 43:1:“But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.’” (ESV)
🙏 A Prayer for the Rejected Heart
Lord Jesus,
You know the pain of rejection more than anyone else. You were rejected by the ones You came to save, and You bore the weight of it all on the cross. Today, I bring You my wounds. The times I felt judged, excluded, abandoned, and cast aside. The times I was too hurt to walk back into a church. The times I let rejection build walls around my heart. The times I blamed You for the MESS in my life. Heal me, Lord.
Show me Your love—the love that embraces even the outcast. Help me to trust You again to open my heart not just to You, but to Your people. I choose today to stand on Your truth, not my hurt.
In Your name,
Amen.
