Bold Obedience Can Look Foolish

🌿by Jennifer Greene-Sullivan 🌿

Sometimes what God asks of us looks totally foolish in the natural. However, He knows the bigger picture, and He knows how to handle it.

Today, I felt led to give to someone in need. That meant leaving my husband and my office unexpectedly. Of course, Chris noticed I was gone. To him—and maybe anyone else looking—it probably seemed like I abandoned my post. Ultimately, I knew in my spirit I was obeying God.

For almost a year now, a woman I’ve gone to church with has believed a lie about me. A former pastor told her something that wasn’t true, and she has chosen to believe it. My silence may look “stupid” from the outside, but God told me clearly: “I will fight this battle for you” (Exodus 14:14). With further confirmation again this week, He confirmed: “No response is a response.”

Obedience doesn’t always make sense. Sometimes it looks like walking away from offering explanations, defending yourself, or making sure others understand. Boldness in Christ may look like foolishness to the world, but it is wisdom in the Kingdom. “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise” (1 Corinthians 1:27). His ways are higher than ours, and His thoughts beyond ours (Isaiah 55:8–9).

Challenge

If the Holy Spirit puts it on your heart to do something that makes no sense to the people around you—do it anyway. Step into the deep end with God. Bold obedience is never wasted.

Prayer
Lord, give me and my brothers and sisters courage to obey You; no matter the cost. No matter how it looks to everyone watching. Remind us that You are our defender, our vindicator, and our guide. Fill us with boldness that comes only from Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
