A Sweet Update: The First Grade Chatterbox

📚 Sneak Peek Ahead
By Jennifer Greene-Sullivan

I have a confession—I’ve always had a soft spot for the students who talk a little too much in class. Maybe it’s because I’ve been that kid (and adult!) who has a hard time holding back excitement when there’s something to say. That’s probably why this little character came so naturally to me: The Chatterbox.

This past week, illustrator Joshua Wichterich sent me the very first sketches for The First Grade Chatterbox, and y’all… I nearly cried. I never knew a boy in a box could have so much expression, warmth, and charm while wearing a BOX!

Joshua captured the essence of this loud little heart so beautifully, and it made everything feel real. When Joshua begins the painting process, I know those images are almost ready. I am excited like the first day of school when they finally download into Dropbox!!

The story follows a boy who talks—A LOT. So much so that he doesn’t notice when his classmates stop listening. It’s not until he says something that truly hurts someone he cares about that he realizes: maybe it’s time to take off the box and listen for once.

Here’s a favorite line from the story and a little sneak peek into his turning point:

That line stuck with me because I think a lot of us, kids and adults alike, have been there. We’ve spoken before thinking. We’ve hurt when we meant to be funny. We’ve talked louder when we felt unheard. And maybe… we’ve all needed a second chance like the Chatterbox gets.

📖 The First Grade Chatterbox is about more than learning to be quiet—it’s about learning to listen, to care, and to grow.

I’ll be sharing more sneak peeks and updates as this book comes to life, but I wanted to let you in early because your support means the world to me. Thank you for cheering on these characters—and the dream God planted in me to bring them into the world.

Stay tuned and stay kind.
